A group called New Generation Leaders (NGL) has issued a warning to the Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, and his Chief of Staff, Peter Akpe. They are being cautioned against bringing the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and its Founder, Pa Enoch Adeboye, into the political scene leading up to the November 11 governorship election in the state.
The Coordinator of NGL in Yenagoa Local Government Area, Comrade Precious Charles Odede, revealed that Diri and his team are planning to seek the support of RCCG and Adeboye for the upcoming election. Odede stated that Akpe is arranging a meeting between Diri and Adeboye in Lagos, hoping that Adeboye will convince Senator Remi Tinubu, an RCCG pastor and the First Lady, to support Diri’s reelection.
Odede believes that this plan will fail, as he recalls how Diri mistreated Mrs. Tinubu in 2022. When she visited Bayelsa to show support for her husband’s campaign and offer condolences to flood victims, Diri denied her entry into the Government House and showed her disrespect. Odede argues that Mrs. Tinubu will not support Diri due to this past incident.
Odede emphasizes that Pa Adeboye is a father figure to all and that RCCG is a church that does not align itself with any political party. He urges the Bayelsa state government to save taxpayers’ money by canceling the trip to Lagos and focusing on their governance responsibilities instead.
