A group called New Generation Leaders of Bayelsa State has expressed its strong disapproval of the continuous attacks on members and supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State.
In a statement released by the National Coordinator, Apostle Bodmas Kemepadei, the group highlighted the alarming rate at which supporters of Chief Timipre Sylva, the APC governorship candidate, are being targeted.
Kemepadei described these attacks as senseless and callous tactics employed by the ruling party in the state. Instead of seeking votes from the people, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has resorted to assaulting and mistreating law-abiding APC supporters.
The statement reads, “As APC supporters in Bayelsa State, we strongly condemn the reports of sponsored political thugs dressed in full military uniform who attempted to invade Sylva’s Local Government Area a few days ago.”
“There have also been cases of harassment, intimidation, and attacks on dedicated members of the APC. If the President does not intervene, some of us may be forced to fight back. This is highly condemnable and a serious threat to democracy. We are now being hunted like prey because of our support for President Tinubu.”
The group called on the President, Inspector General of Police (IGP), and other security agencies to take immediate action and ensure that those responsible for these acts are brought to justice before the situation escalates further.
“As a group, we are closely monitoring the attacks on APC members, and we believe it is directly linked to the increasing popularity and overwhelming support for the APC in the state. The President should intervene by instructing the security agencies to be vigilant and address the continuous assault on our party members.”
