Guess what? President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has just appointed someone new to be the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria! His name is Olayemi Michael Cardoso. Exciting, right?
Before Cardoso, there was a guy named Folashodun Shonubi who was in charge of the bank. But he was just filling in temporarily because the previous governor, Godwin Emefiele, got suspended on June 9. So now it’s Cardoso’s turn to take charge!
Cardoso is from Lagos State and he’s got some impressive qualifications. He has a Master’s degree in Public Administration and Management from Harvard University. That’s a pretty big deal!
Back in 1999, when Nigeria transitioned to civilian democracy, Cardoso became the first commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget in Lagos State. That means he was in charge of making plans and managing the budget for the state. He must be really good with numbers!
Cardoso also has a lot of experience in the banking world. He has worked for big banks like Chase Bank, Citibank, and Citizens International Bank. At Citibank, he even became a Vice-President! That’s a fancy title.
But wait, there’s more! Cardoso has also served on the boards of different companies, like MRS Oil Nigeria PLC. And he was the Managing Partner of FBC Associates Limited. He must be a really busy guy!
