Members of the non-academic staff unions have paralysed activities at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), as they embark on protest to kick-start a seven-day warning strike.
The unions involved in the protest on Wednesday include the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities; the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational Associated Institutions; and the National Association of Academic Technologists of the University of Lagos.
They staged a peaceful protest in front of the school’s gate.
The protesting members of the union blocked vehicular movement and hindered the free flow of traffic in the environment.
They could be seen singing as they displayed various placards to register their grievances with the Federal Government over their withheld salaries.
Recall that the JAC of SSANU and NASU had, for about a month, called the government’s attention to its exclusion from the payment of the withheld salaries, which it commenced payment for the Academic Staff Union of Universities in February.
