Hey there, middle schoolers! Big news! Organized Labour, which includes the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), has just declared a massive strike all across the country. This means that workers from different industries will stop working indefinitely, starting from Tuesday, November 14, 2023.
So, here’s the deal. Last week, the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, was attacked in Imo State. This made the labour unions really angry and upset. They felt that their leader was being mistreated, and they decided to take action. They warned everyone that if something like this happened again, they would go on strike. And now, unfortunately, they have kept their word.
Well, when workers go on strike, it means they refuse to work until their demands are met. In this case, the labour unions want the government to take action and make sure that their leader, Joe Ajaero, is safe. They believe that by going on strike, they can put pressure on the government to listen to them and take their concerns seriously.
