An Akure Magistrate Court has issued a bench warrant for former Ondo State deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi. This means that the court wants him to come to court to answer allegations of stealing.
Ajayi is accused of obtaining a brand new Toyota Camry valued at N5.4 million by lying and engaging in theft. These alleged actions took place in May 2018.
The Commissioner of Police asked the court to issue the warrant so that Ajayi would appear in court. The court agreed and ordered Ajayi to come to court or provide a statement on November 24.
Two former aides of Ajayi, Ogunmusi Samuel and Akintoye Olatunji, have already been brought before the court in relation to the car that was allegedly taken. Samuel claimed that Ajayi told him to collect the car from someone named Segun Adetuwo, but they left without paying for it.
The lawyers for both Akintoye and Adetuwo have been trying to contact Ajayi to see if they can settle the matter outside of court. However, Ajayi insisted on providing a written statement or appearing in person before the court.
The presiding Magistrate, Taiwo Lebi, has ordered that Ajayi or his statement be brought to court on the next adjournment date.
