Hey there, middle schoolers! Big news from Imo State! The Supreme Court just made a decision about the upcoming gubernatorial election on November 11th. They said that Senator Athan Achonu is the rightful candidate of the Labor Party. This means that if he wins the election, he could become the first physically challenged governor in Nigeria!
Let me give you some background. Achonu lost one of his arms in 1970, but that hasn’t stopped him from pursuing his dreams. He worked hard to become a senator, and now he’s aiming even higher to become the governor of Imo State.
But there was some drama before the Supreme Court made their decision. Another candidate named Basil Maduka didn’t agree with Achonu’s candidacy. He went to the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal to challenge it. However, the Supreme Court said that Maduka didn’t have the right to do that, so they threw out his case.
The Supreme Court also scolded Maduka for wasting the court’s time and abusing the legal process. They weren’t happy with how he handled the situation. Two other people involved in this matter were Joseph Ukaegbu, also known as Ikenga, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
After the Supreme Court’s decision, the counsel to the Labor Party, Barrister Okwudili Anozie, spoke to journalists. He said that the controversy surrounding Achonu’s candidacy is finally over. He also called out Maduka and Ukaegbu for their deceit and lies.
So, there you have it! Achonu’s candidacy has been confirmed by the Supreme Court, and he’s ready to compete in the upcoming election. Let’s see if he can make history and become the first physically challenged governor in Nigeria!
