Get ready to be amazed because John Obot, a Nigerian man from Akwa Ibom State, is about to break the Guinness World Record for the longest marathon reading aloud! He has already reached an incredible 145 hours of non-stop reading, surpassing the previous record of 124 hours set by an Indian reader named Rysbai Isakov.
John Obot began his reading marathon on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Cityview Hall in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. However, he faced some technical difficulties and power failures that invalidated his initial attempt. But that didn’t stop him! He persevered and started again, determined to achieve his goal.
The venue of the event was filled with supporters and admirers of John Obot. They cheered him on and even started a countdown when he reached 144 hours, 59 minutes, and 34 seconds. Among the notable attendees were the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, and other politicians and locals who came to show their support.
This incredible reading marathon was made possible with the support of the Uyo Book Club, founded by Dr. Udeme Nana, and the Readmania Team. Their dedication and encouragement helped John Obot stay motivated throughout the marathon.
John Obot is not just an amazing reader; he is also a school teacher. He comes from a family with a strong connection to the world of journalism. His late father, Mr. John Obot, was a journalist and served as the Akwa Ibom State Correspondent of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) until his passing. John Obot’s achievement is a tribute to his father’s memory and a testament to his own passion for reading.
