On wednessday, Police Commissioner CP Faleye S. Olaleye (psc) held a meeting with non-indigens in the state (Hausas, Fulanis, Igbos, Benue, etc.). This conference aims to foster warm relationships between these dependents and the host community.
Speaking to them, he emphasized the need for tolerance and love among them, noting that all the religions they believed in preached love and tolerance.
CP was very excited to see how fluently he speaks Yoruba.
He proclaimed that he had come in peace and exhorted all to accept it.
He further stated that he would never be kind to anyone involved in violent or criminal activity.
On a lighter mood, he promised to organize a kind of get-together, where everyone will cook & dress according to their own tradition/ custom and merry and see everyone as one indivisible family. ‘We are one Nigeria, one family, brothers and sisters, God/Allah knows why He joined us together’ he stressed. The CP also stated that, the meeting becomes imperative at this time when our unity (as Nigerians) is being threatened as a result of the activities of some selfish people.
The CP assured them of an open door policy, while promising his full support and assistance where and when necessary as long as they are law abiding.
While talking about the Farmers/Herders problem, he advised them to always settle cases amicably, noting that no farmer will be happy seeing his/her crops labored on, sometimes financed with Bank loans being destroyed by cattle, therefore, Farmers/Herders should reach agreement on settlement, but where it can’t be settled, they should bring it to the police instead of taking law into their hands (engaging in jungle justice).
Finally, he urged them to work with the police to make Osun State a ‘sanctuary’, a no-go zone for bad actors.
