Osun: One dead, palace burned down as obaship crisis engulfed Ikirun
Parts of Ikirun’s Palace were set ablaze on Wednesday as the Obaship battle in the ancient city worsened. A person identified as Lukuman Omoola was also reportedly shot dead.
This happened on Wednesday during plans to smuggle the new Akirun, Oba Olalekan Akadiri, into the palace.
The deceased has been identified as Lukuman Omoola, a descendant of the Gboleru ruling house – one of the houses fighting to fill the vacant throne. He was said to be shot dead.
The Akinrun royal tussle, which has been rocking the town for over about a month was renewed when the Akadiri allegedly led other persons to the town to gain access into the Palace.
The appointment of Akadiri as Akinrun of Ikirun by the Osun state government did not win the support of the majority of the townspeople, including chiefs and kimgmakers
He was also denied access to the castle from his second day proclaimed as the new king, and the government presented instruments of office to him last week at the government secretariat in Osogbo.
