
Ahead of annually celebrations of Osun osogbo festival, Nine year old girl becomes New Arugba Osun
A nine-year-old girl, Osunbunmi, from Agbo’lé Ọba, Òṣogbo, has been chosen as the new Arugbá Ọ̀ṣun, a revered role in the annual Ọ̀ṣun-Òṣogbo Festival.
The selection according to an Osun devotee who pleaded anonymity was confirmed by the Ifa oracle.
He said the new Arugba’s selection follows the transition of the previous one.
According to him, “After the traditional divination process, a young girl named Osunbunmi was selected for the revered role.
The selection is coming months ahead of the annual festival which would come up in August, 2025.
The Arugbá Ọ̀ṣun is traditionally a virgin girl who carries the sacred calabash of sacrifices to the Ọ̀ṣun River as part of the festival’s rituals.
