The Police Service Commission (PSC) has received an overwhelming response to its recruitment drive for the constable cadre of the Nigeria Police Force. In just a week since the application portal opened, exactly 288,266 Nigerian youths have submitted online applications for consideration.
This update was announced by the Police Service Commission, which noted that by 7 pm on Monday, October 23, 2023, the recruitment portal (www.apply.policerecruitment.gov.ng) had already received this substantial number of applications.
Of the total applications received, 217,105 met the basic requirements for further consideration in the subsequent phases of the recruitment process.
The portal was made available for applicants on Sunday, October 15, 2023, and will remain open until November 26, 2023, in compliance with the Federal Character Commission’s requirement of a six-week duration for eligible candidates to apply for government agency vacancies.
The breakdown of the applications includes 217,300 applicants for General Duty positions and 70,676 applicants for specialist posts. However, 69,426 applications were rejected for various reasons, with over-age applications accounting for 46,868 of the rejections. A total of 51,213 General Duty applications and 18,213 Specialist applications were also rejected.
Applicants for the constable cadre recruitment must meet various requirements, such as being of Nigerian origin, possessing a National Identification Number (NIN), having a minimum of five credits in relevant subjects, being between 18 and 25 years old, and having a valid email address and phone number. Applicants are advised that there are no monetary implications associated with the application process.
Dr. Solomon Arase, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, commended the interest shown by Nigerian youths in pursuing a career in the Nigeria Police Force. He assured that the recruitment exercise would be transparent and merit-based. He encouraged interested youths to continue visiting the recruitment portal for their applications.
