The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, is deeply saddened by the increasing number of students being abducted by bandits in the North-West region of Nigeria.
The Speaker’s concern was raised after the Katsina State Police Command confirmed the abduction of five students from the Federal University, Dutsinma in the state.
Earlier, on September 22, 2023, armed bandits invaded three female hostels at the Sabon Gida area of Zamfara State and abducted an unspecified number of female students from the Federal University, Gusau (FUG).
In response to these abductions, Abbas issued a statement through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi, urging security agencies to rescue the abducted students and prevent any future incidents. He emphasized that these abductions pose a serious threat to education in the North.
The Speaker expressed his deep concern about the alarming nature of this disturbing trend. He called upon the military and relevant security agencies to urgently review their strategies and approaches to ensure the safety of all Nigerians.
Abbas also appealed to the communities surrounding tertiary institutions to assist security agents by remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious activities in their areas.
