Members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria’s Kano State Chapter took part in a nationwide strike declared by the union’s national body, resulting in the closure of the Kano State House Assembly on Monday.
Bashir Yahaya, the chairman of the state chapter of PASAN, confirmed the Assembly’s closure and explained that the strike was initiated due to the government’s failure to implement financial autonomy for the legislative branch.
He emphasized that this action came after a two-year wait following the signing of the Financial Autonomy Act by President Muhammadu Buhari, with the state governors failing to enact it.
Yahaya stated that the strike would persist until their demands were addressed, and the state Assembly would only reopen upon a counter directive from the national body.
