Hey there, middle schoolers! So, there’s been a lot of talk about the government wanting to regulate social media. And let me tell you, people are not happy about it! They think it’s going to take away their freedom of speech.
Here’s what’s been going on: The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) sent a bill to the National Assembly on October 3. This bill wants to change the rules for social media in Nigeria. If it becomes a law, the NBC will have the power to control social media.
When the bill was submitted, the Director-General of the NBC, Balarabe Ilelah, called social media a “monster.” He said that it’s causing a lot of problems in our country. But people are not convinced that regulating social media is the solution.
Now, the NBC is talking to big social media platforms to try and control what people say and do online. They want to stop the bad things that happen on social media.
But here’s the thing, guys. Some people believe that regulating social media is not the right way to go. They think it’s important to have the freedom to express themselves online. They don’t want the government telling them what they can and cannot say.
So, there you have it. The government’s plan to control social media is causing a lot of controversy. People are standing up for their right to speak freely online. It’s definitely a hot topic right now!
