Hey guys! So, there’s some really cool news about the recent election in Eti-Osa. Bankole Wellington, who was running for the House of Representatives seat under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is super excited about the tribunal’s judgement on his petition. Let me break it down for you.
Okay, so here’s the deal. The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Lagos State ordered a supplementary election for the Eti-Osa House of Reps seat. This means that there will be another chance for people to vote in 32 polling units within the constituency. The previous winner, Thaddeus Attah of the Labour Party, had his victory nullified because of some issues with the election.
Banky W, as he is popularly known, is really happy about this decision. He believes that the people who couldn’t vote before now have a second chance to make their voices heard. He says that around 29,000 eligible voters were not able to participate in the election because of things like intimidation, vote suppression, and other unfair practices.
Banky W said, “I am grateful that the tribunal agreed that every voice deserves to be heard and counted when it comes to elections. In Eti-Osa, and probably in other parts of the country, there were many polling units where elections didn’t happen. Some places had voter suppression, intimidation, and even violence. It’s not fair that 29,000 people were denied their right to vote. But now, they have a second chance!”
