The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) wants to set the record straight. They are responding to Governor Ademola Adeleke’s concerns about the decreasing number of healthcare workers in the state. The APC believes that the governor’s own policies are to blame for this shortage.
During the 9th Annual International Oncology Multidisciplinary Team Symposium, Governor Adeleke expressed his worries about the lack of medical experts in Osun State. However, the APC disagrees with his assessment.
The APC’s chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, released a statement through the party’s Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi. Lawal claims that Governor Adeleke is not being honest about the real cause of the shortage of healthcare workers in the state.
According to Lawal, as long as Governor Adeleke continues to play politics with the health sector and other sectors in the state, the challenges will persist. Lawal believes that the governor should have been upfront about his decision to dismiss hundreds of state workers through Executive Order Number three.
The APC chairman argues that Governor Adeleke cannot ignore the consequences of his actions. Since the mass dismissal of healthcare workers, public hospitals in the state have suffered greatly. Many healthcare workers have also resigned and sought opportunities abroad due to the uncertain situation.
Despite pleas from stakeholders to reconsider the plight of the sacked workers, Governor Adeleke has refused, citing a lack of resources. The APC finds it hypocritical for the governor to now lament the dwindling number of healthcare experts in the state when he was the one responsible for the current state of the healthcare system.
The APC emphasizes that the health sector should never be politicized. They believe that Governor Adeleke’s concerns are insincere and merely a smokescreen. The party suggests that the governor should rectify his mistake by reinstating the sacked healthcare workers and stop his hypocritical lamentation.
Signed,
Sooko Tajudeen Lawal,
Chairman, Osun State APC.
