Governorship Election Tribunal Sets Date for Hearing
The Governorship Election Tribunal in Yola has scheduled Saturday, October 28th to address a case that questions the handling of the last governorship election in Adamawa State.
A leading candidate for governorship, Senator Aishatu Ahmed Binani of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has filed a case against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). She is challenging their decision to reject her declaration as the winner of the April 15th governorship rerun in the state.
Earlier this year, a state resident electoral commissioner (REC) of INEC, Hudu Ari-Yunusa, prematurely declared Binani as the winner of the election. However, INEC nullified this action, suspended Hudu, and later announced Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the actual winner after completing the collation process.
Binani raised objections against INEC, including their declaration of Fintiri as the winner, and took her case to the governorship election petition tribunal on May 5th.
The tribunal has recently issued a notice to all parties involved in the case, summoning them to appear before the tribunal on October 28th.
