Uh-oh! The Lamidi Apapa’s faction is not having a good time. They tried to stop Athan Achonu, the candidate of the Labour Party, from participating in the Governorship election in Imo State. But guess what? They didn’t succeed! Let’s find out what happened.
So, the Apapa faction went to the Federal High Court in Abuja to ask them to kick out Achonu from the election. But the Court said no! The judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo, disagreed with the faction’s request. Instead, he told them to let the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) know about the lawsuit and give them a chance to defend themselves.
The Apapa faction made an application to the Court. They wanted the Court to stop INEC from recognizing anyone else as the Labour Party’s candidate for the Governorship election in Imo State. They said that only Chief Ukaegbu Ikechukwu Joseph, who won the primary election led by Apapa, should be recognized. They also wanted INEC to recognize Lamidi Apapa as the national chairman of the party and Lawal Saleh as the national secretary.
But the judge didn’t agree with the faction’s request. He said they needed to bring INEC to Court and let them explain their side of the story. So, the faction has to turn their request into a proper motion and serve it to INEC.
The judge has set a date for further discussion on November 10. This will give the Apapa faction a chance to present their complaints and INEC an opportunity to respond with their defense. We’ll have to wait and see what happens next!
