Hey there, middle schoolers! Today, we’re going to talk about Bode George and his thoughts on the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Bode George is a former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, and he’s not happy with how things went in the 2023 presidential elections.
Bode George recently spoke to journalists in Lagos and shared his criticism of the NWC. He believes that they didn’t follow the proper procedures set by the PDP’s founding fathers for conducting primary elections and congresses. And according to him, going back to these established processes is crucial for improving the party’s chances in future elections.
Bode George has been involved with the PDP for a long time, and he knows a thing or two about how things should be done. He mentioned that during the time of Uche Secondus, the NWC started deviating from the original plans. He didn’t want to go into too much detail, but he made it clear that this deviation is causing a big crisis within the party.
He said, “Our party is not owned by an individual, but some people act like they are the ones running the show. These are the issues we need to address within our party. When I was there, we followed a different method, and there was no crisis.”
Bode George gave an example of what went wrong during the primaries in Lagos. He said that people who don’t even live in Lagos were sent to conduct the primaries. How can someone from outside know the city better than the people who actually live there? Instead of letting the voters decide, these outsiders were looking for specific candidates and supporting them like an ATM machine.
He explained, “Once they finish their job, they run back to the national organizing department to make sure their chosen candidate wins. This creates a lot of problems because if the party is divided at the grassroots level, how can they fight against outsiders?”
Bode George believes that the PDP needs to address these issues and find a way to move forward. He suggests setting up a reconciliation committee that will travel around the country and gather information about what happened in each state during the 2023 elections. They need to look into the financial aspects and how the primaries were conducted in each state.
He emphasized, “We can’t just sweep everything under the carpet. We need to take a thorough look at what went wrong and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
So, that’s the scoop on Bode George’s criticism of the PDP’s NWC. It’s important for political parties to follow the right procedures and listen to their members to have a better chance of winning elections. Let’s see what the PDP does to address these concerns and improve their party for the future!
