Fresh Elections to be Held in Kogi State
Hey everyone! Exciting news! The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has just announced that they will be holding fresh elections in 59 polling units in the Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area of Kogi State. The new election will take place on Saturday, November 18, 2023.
Well, it turns out that there were some issues with the previous elections. INEC received a report from Kogi that there were problems in some locations where the result sheets were completed before people even started voting. That’s not fair, right? So, INEC decided to take action and hold fresh elections in those areas.
Basically, it means that the elections in nine out of ten wards in the Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area are suspended. These wards are Eni, Okibo, Okesi, Ileteju, Aiyeromi, Ugugu, Obinoyin, Obatgben, and Oturu. There are 59 polling units and 15,136 registered voters in these areas. INEC is following the rules and regulations to make sure everything is fair and transparent.
The new elections will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, in the affected polling units. INEC wants to make sure that the process is fair and that everyone’s vote counts. They will also investigate to find out if anyone was involved in undermining the process and take appropriate action against them.
As of Sunday evening, election results from 18 out of the 21 local government areas in the state have been collected. It looks like the candidates from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are in a tight race. It’s exciting to see who will come out on top!
Dino Melaye, who is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), raised concerns about “filled result sheets” in the Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area. He also mentioned violence and vote-buying. INEC took these concerns seriously and decided to suspend elections in nine wards in that area.
So, that’s the latest update on the elections in Kogi State. Stay tuned for more news and let’s see what happens in the fresh elections!
