The government is confident that there will be no strike in the country, despite the earlier announcement by the labour unions.
Just recently, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) agreed to go on a nationwide strike due to the government’s failure to meet their demands.
However, the government has revealed that Bola Tinubu, a prominent figure, will announce a special package for workers during the customary presidential speech on Nigeria’s Independence Day.
The spokesperson for the labour ministry, Olajide Oshundun, stated that the meeting scheduled for Tuesday will focus on the pronouncements made by President Bola Tinubu during his October 1 Independence Day broadcast.
He said, “We will prevent the strike from happening. We received news of their intention to strike, but they can rest assured that President Tinubu will address the concerns of Nigerian workers in his October 1 speech.”
The ministry is also actively working to address the wage award, which is the second aspect of the workers’ demands. They have already secured the release of the NURTW factional chairman and plan to invite the unions on Tuesday to discuss the reasons for calling off the strike.
