Hey there, middle schoolers! So, there’s this thing happening in Kano State, Nigeria. The Kano State Governorship Election Tribunal is about to make a big decision on a petition filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate. But guess what? Journalists were not allowed inside the court to report on it. Let’s find out more!
Okay, so here’s the deal. The APC candidate, Nasir Gawuna, wasn’t happy with the results of the election that took place on March 18. He thought that Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP) shouldn’t have been declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). So, he decided to challenge the results in court.
Now, today was the day when the court was supposed to give its judgment on the petition. But when reporters showed up to cover the proceedings, they were told they couldn’t go inside. Bummer, right?
The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Usaini Muhammed Gumel, explained that the court only allowed 50 people to be present. And that number included the judges, lawyers from both parties, journalists, and the media. So, it wasn’t the police’s decision to limit the number of people inside.
Well, that’s all we know for now, my friends. We’ll have to wait and see what the court decides. Stay tuned for more updates!
