The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has made a strong decision regarding the Ward 1 Chairman of the party in Akoko North-West Local Government Area. Olumide Awolumate has been suspended indefinitely for assaulting the Commissioner for Women Affairs in the state, Olubunmi Osadahun. The incident happened during a disagreement over the distribution of palliatives in the local government.
The suspension of Awolumate was carried out by the party in Akoko North-West and then communicated to the state chairman, Ade Adetimehin. This action was taken in response to the recent altercation between Awolumate and Osadahun, which received a lot of attention and criticism. The state secretariat of the APC ordered a thorough investigation into the incident, leading to the decision to suspend Awolumate.
The incident, which took place over the weekend, was captured in a viral video that spread widely on social media. The video showed Awolumate, also known as ‘Cuba’, physically assaulting Osadahun. This video caused public outrage and demands for immediate disciplinary action against Awolumate.
The party leadership in Akoko North-West has officially informed the State Secretariat about the suspension of Awolumate. The State Secretariat has promised to establish a strong disciplinary committee to ensure that Awolumate faces appropriate punishment. This is not only to serve as a deterrent to other party members but also to show that such behavior is not acceptable within the party.
