Hey there, middle schoolers! We’ve got some great news to share with you. The National Assembly is giving a big thumbs up to the Federal Government and the labour unions for working together to prevent a nationwide strike. How cool is that?
During a meeting on Tuesday, the President of the Senate, Sen.Godswil Akpabio, expressed his gratitude to the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for understanding the difficult situation we’re in. He also praised the Federal Government for taking proactive steps to avoid the strike.
Sen.Godswil Akpabio believes that this understanding will not only stabilize our economy but also attract foreign direct investment. After all, a country can’t thrive when there’s constant conflict.
He gave a special shoutout to the unions, the Federal Government team, and the Senate Committee on Labour for their hard work in finding a peaceful solution to the issue.
Sen.Diket Plang, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Labour, shared some more details about the situation. He mentioned that the Senate leadership, along with other stakeholders, had met with different groups to discuss the planned strike.
He happily informed everyone that the NLC and TUC had signed a memorandum of understanding with the government. They agreed on 15 resolutions, which led to the suspension of the strike for another 30 days. That’s a big win!
Sen.Diket Plang congratulated both teams for their clear understanding and cooperation in resolving the issue.
