The president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, got hurt during a protest in Owerri, Imo State. He will now be taken to another country for medical treatment.
The NLC Publicity Secretary, Benson Upah, confirmed that Ajaero will be flown abroad for treatment. The injuries he sustained during the scuffle were too severe to be treated at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Owerri.
Ajaero went to Owerri on November 1 to gather Imo workers for a protest rally. They were protesting against the state government for violating and mistreating workers’ rights and privileges.
During the protest, a large number of people showed up. Allegedly, operatives of the Nigeria Police took Ajaero away forcefully. He was later released with injuries on his face, revealing that he was mistreated and harmed by those who kidnapped him temporarily.
