There was a recent incident in Makurdi, Benue State, where some angry youths attacked the convoy of the state’s governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia. The incident took place in Ugondu community, and it caused quite a stir.
The youths from Ugondu community were upset about the decision to bury Engr. Michael Vaatia, the owner of Vaatia College, within the school premises located in their community. They believed that this was not the right place for the burial.
During Governor Alia’s visit to Vaatia College to assess the preparations for the burial, the angry youths pelted his convoy with stones. They even went as far as invading the school and destroying the grave.
As a result of their actions, six of the protesting Ugondu youths were arrested by the police for throwing objects at the governor’s convoy. The situation became chaotic as the youths disrupted the proceedings and fired gunshots into the air.
Fortunately, the police special unit, known as Operation Zenda, arrived at the scene and managed to overpower the protesters. Many of them were arrested, and the situation was brought under control.
It is important for everyone to express their opinions peacefully and respect the decisions made by authorities. Violence and destruction only lead to more problems and hinder progress.
