Hey there, middle schoolers! Today, we have some news from the world of politics. The National and State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Kano State has made a big decision. They have removed Yusuf Umar Datti, who was the candidate for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), from his position as a representative. Let’s find out why!
The tribunal, led by Justice Flora Ngozi Azingbe, decided that Yusuf Umar Datti’s election should be nullified. Why? Well, it turns out that Yusuf didn’t quit his job as a lecturer at Bayero University, Kano, within 30 days before the election. According to the rules, he should have done that. So, the tribunal said his election was not valid.
But that’s not all! Yusuf Umar Datti also couldn’t prove to the tribunal that he is a member of the NNPP. This means that he couldn’t show enough evidence to convince them that he truly belongs to that political party. So, the tribunal didn’t have any choice but to remove him from his position.
Now, who will take Yusuf’s place? The tribunal declared Musa Ilyasu Kwankwaso from the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the rightful winner of the election. Musa used to be a commissioner during the time when Abdullahi Ganduje was the governor of Kano State. So, he has some experience in politics!
That’s all for today’s political news, middle schoolers! We learned that Yusuf Umar Datti, the NNPP candidate, lost his position as a representative because he didn’t quit his job on time and couldn’t prove his party membership. Musa Ilyasu Kwankwaso from the APC is now the new winner of the election. Stay tuned for more exciting news!
