The Kogi State Government recently revealed that there was an assassination attempt on the life of the state’s governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello. The incident took place just a few kilometers away from Abuja while he was on his way to an official engagement from Lokoja.
The attack occurred around 4 p.m. on Sunday. The governor’s convoy was ambushed by individuals dressed in military uniforms. They started shooting at his vehicle and other vehicles in the convoy. Thankfully, the security personnel assigned to the governor acted swiftly and prevented any harm from coming to him.
The attackers struck at three different points, with the final barricade being near Kwali Federal Capital Territory at around 4.20 p.m.
The state government has reported these incidents to the appropriate security offices at both the state and national levels. They are urging for prompt and thorough investigations to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
The government is aware that certain individuals are trying to portray Kogi as an unsafe place ahead of the Governorship Poll scheduled for November 11, 2023. The administration is determined to ensure the safety of its citizens and will not tolerate violence and terrorism sponsored by desperate politicians.
