Hey there, middle schoolers! So, there were some elections happening in Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa states recently. But guess what? It wasn’t all rainbows and sunshine. Nope, there was violence and some people even said that the election was rigged. Let’s find out more!
Okay, so here’s the deal. A lot of people went out to vote in these states. Can you believe that over 5 million people got their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) to vote? That’s a lot of people!
But here’s the not-so-great part. In some places, there were fights and violence during the voting. Not cool, right? And some people said that the election results were being changed on purpose. That’s called manipulation, and it’s definitely not fair.
Before the election even happened, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) told everyone that there were some places where the election couldn’t take place. They said it was because of security issues. So, they already knew that some places were not safe.
But even with that, there were still problems. Some INEC officials were caught with result sheets that were already filled out before the voting even started. That’s not how it’s supposed to work!
And get this, one INEC official in Bayelsa State was even kidnapped by some bad guys. Can you believe that? It’s really sad and scary.
Well, because of all the problems, INEC had to suspend the election in some areas. They said that the voting couldn’t continue in those places because things were just too messed up.
And sadly, there was even a fight between supporters of two different political parties in Bayelsa State. It got so bad that someone lost their life. It’s really heartbreaking to hear about these things happening during an election.
So, that’s the story, my middle school friends. Elections are supposed to be a fair and peaceful way for people to choose their leaders. But sometimes, things don’t go as planned. Let’s hope that in the future, elections can be held without any violence or manipulation. Everyone deserves a fair chance to vote!
