The Zamfara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) wants everyone to know that they are not afraid of a rerun election. The Court of Appeal has ordered a rerun election in the state, but the PDP is confident that they will still win by a large margin.
The PDP spokesperson, Buhari Maijega, said that Governor Dauda Lawal is currently leading by over 65,000 votes against his opponent from the APC, former Governor Bello Mattawalle. Even in the three local government areas where the rerun election will take place, the total votes to be contested are less than 100,000.
Maijega believes that it will be very difficult for the APC to secure all the votes in the rerun election. He mentioned security challenges that might discourage voters, especially in rural areas affected by banditry.
Maijega expressed confidence in Governor Lawal’s chances of winning the election. He pointed out that Lawal is already ahead by 65,000 votes and suggested that he might even challenge the Appeal Court’s decision at the Supreme Court. This could make things even more difficult for Mattawalle.
Maijega appealed to APC members and supporters to come out in large numbers to secure Governor Dauda Lawal’s position. The rerun election will only take place in a few polling units in Maradun, Bukkuyum, and Birnin Magaji local government areas.
Maijega reassured PDP supporters that even if they didn’t actively campaign, he is confident that Governor Lawal will still gain additional votes in those three local governments and retain his position. He urged supporters to remain calm and trust that they will succeed.
