The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, thinks it’s time for President Bola Tinubu to appoint a permanent Auditor-General of the Federation. This is an important position that should not be left vacant or filled by an acting director for too long.
Kalu made this request during the unveiling of the House Committee on Public Accounts (PAC) and a workshop organized by the Africa Development Study Centre (ADSC) in Abuja.
Kalu believes that appointing a permanent Auditor-General will show the government’s commitment to managing taxpayers’ money effectively. It will also send a signal that the government is serious about holding government agencies accountable for their actions.
Kalu also mentioned that the 10th Assembly is dedicated to working together with the executive branch to ensure that government agencies use funds wisely. The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) aims to promote accountability, transparency, and responsible management of public funds.
The PAC is determined to improve the Office of the Auditor General of the Federation, following global best practices. This will help ensure that the auditing process is effective and efficient.
