The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has some exciting news! They will be holding mock elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states on October 14, 2023. This is to prepare for the governorship elections happening on November 11. It’s like a practice round to make sure everything goes smoothly on the big day!
INEC has chosen a few polling units in each Senatorial District across the three states. In total, there will be nine Senatorial Districts and 27 polling units. You can find all the details about these polling units, like their locations and the number of registered voters, on INEC’s website and social media platforms.
During the mock election, INEC will test their Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS). This system helps with the accreditation process, which is when they check if you’re eligible to vote. They will also upload the results from each polling unit to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV). This way, everyone can see the results!
The mock election is a chance for INEC to learn and improve. They want to make sure everything runs smoothly on the actual Election Day. So, any issues or problems that come up during the mock election will be fixed before the real deal. It’s all about making sure the voting process is fair and efficient.
If you’re a registered voter in one of the selected polling units, make sure to bring your Permanent Voter Card (PVC) for the mock election. Remember, this is just a practice round and not the actual election. But it’s still important to participate and help INEC make the necessary improvements.
