
Hey there, middle schoolers! We have some exciting news to share with you. There’s a new Assistant Inspector General of Police in Osogbo, and his name is AIG Paul Ojeka Odama. He recently assumed duty at Zone XI Command Osogbo, taking over from the previous AIG, Olanrewaju Yomi Oladimeji, who was redeployed to Abuja as the Force Secretary at Force Headquarters. Let’s learn more about the new AIG!
AIG Paul Ojeka Odama hails from Yala Local Government in Cross River State. He has had an impressive educational journey, attending Christ the King Primary School and Mary Knoll College in Cross River State. He holds a B.Sc. in Sociology from ABU Zaria, a PGD in Management from UNICAL Calabar, an M.Sc. in Criminology from ABU Zaria, and an MBA from UNICAL. He is also a Chartered Accountant.
AIG Paul Ojeka Odama joined the Nigerian Police Force in 1990 as a Cadet ASP Course 16 member. He began his journey in Kebbi State Command, where he learned the basics of police work. Throughout his career, he has served in various positions, including DCO Brinin Kebbi, DPO Koko Besse, Yauri, and Sakaba Divisions. He was later transferred to Zone 7 Abuja as O/C Federal Anti-Robbery and then to Abuja FCT Command, where he became DPO Maitama, Lugbe, Kwubua, Buwari, and Gwagwalada. He was also posted to Kaduna State, serving as DPO Brinin Gwari, Kakuri, Rigachuku, and Angwaa Sanusi Divisions.
AIG Paul Ojeka Odama’s dedication and hard work have earned him several promotions and recognition throughout his career. He has served as Commandant of the Police Training School in Jos, Area Commander in Ile-Ife, Kabba, and Suleja, Deputy Commissioner of Police at INEC Headquarters Abuja, DC State CID Kano, and DC Zonal CID Zone 1 Kano. He has also held the position of Commissioner of Police in Maritime Lagos and Kwara State Command.
In 2023, AIG Paul Ojeka Odama was promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police. He served at the Federal Operation Force Headquarters in Abuja before assuming his current position as AIG Zone XI Command in Osogbo.
AIG Paul Ojeka Odama’s dedication to his work has taken him on various international missions. He participated in an election in Pristina, Kosovo, which installed Ibrahim Rugova as the democratically elected President of Kosovo. He also served on a UN mission in Monrovia, Liberia, where he supervised the election between Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and George Weah. Additionally, he went on a UN mission to Estimo, Indonesia, where he served as the District Commander of Oecusse.
Throughout his career, AIG Paul Ojeka Odama has attended several courses to enhance his skills and knowledge. Some of these courses include the Advance Detective Course at Police Staff College Jos, Leadership and Strategic Command Course at Police Staff College Jos, Conflict Resolution Course in Kosovo, and Combat Tactical Course at Mobile Training College Gwoza, Borno State.
AIG Paul Ojeka Odama has received several awards and recognition for his outstanding performance. He was named the Most Proactive DPO in Kaduna State in 2011 and the Best Area Commander in Osun State in 2015.
AIG Paul Ojeka Odama is not only dedicated to his work but also has a passion for sports. He has won numerous medals in various sports events, including handball and athletics. He has participated in the Oluyole 79 Ibadan, Arogbo 79 in Owerri, NUGA 82, 84, and 86, and the Lagos 87 Athletics Classic-Decathlon.
Outside of work and sports, AIG Paul Ojeka Odama has a well-established family life. He is married and has children.
