Today, we’re going to talk about something that happened recently involving a former president of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo. He did something that some people think was not cool, and we’re going to find out why. Let’s dive in! So, Obasanjo was at an event where a new road and a university campus were being opened. During this event, he told traditional rulers in Oyo State to stand up and show respect for him. Now, this didn’t sit well with everyone. The Oluwo of Iwo, a traditional ruler in Osun State, didn’t like what Obasanjo did at all. He said that the monarchs who stood up to obey Obasanjo’s order were to blame. According to him, respect should be earned, not demanded. He thought it was disrespectful to the traditional institutions of Another traditional ruler, the Aragbiji of Iragbiji, also spoke up about this. He said that denigrating or saying bad things about a traditional ruler is not good for the land. He believed that if there was a problem, it should be addressed privately, not in public. So, there you have it, middle schoolers! Obasanjo’s action of ordering traditional rulers to stand up for him didn’t go over well with everyone.
