Last week, the organised labour led a two-day warning strike to protest against the removal of fuel subsidies. Now, they are threatening to go on an indefinite strike if the government doesn’t meet their demands within the next week.
The Nigeria Labour Congress is not happy with the government’s response to the removal of fuel subsidies. They believe that the government should be doing more to help the Nigerian people who are facing hardships because of this decision. The union is particularly upset about reports that the government gave N100m to each member of the National Assembly while only providing a bag of rice to a dozen citizens.
On September 1, the union gave the government a 21-day ultimatum to address their concerns. If the government fails to meet their demands, the labour body is prepared to go on an indefinite nationwide strike.
The labour body is urging its members to stay strong and determined. They believe that the same passion and determination that fueled the warning strike will be crucial if they have to go on an indefinite strike.
